Best Metric of Worse Habits
My attention recently turned to one of PoE 2’s performance-tracking settings & despite my laziest efforts I find toggling it has re-ignited my level of entertainment while playing the game. Two of the most valuable, general video game requirements therein have improved–these necessaries being: gameplay real-estate for world visuals being less interfered upon and client-side notice of WAN-delay. Simply removing all line-graphs (for myself at least) has given me such joy. Seriously if you haven’t tried playing with ONLY the latency factor bar graphs enabled, you don’t know how many clicks (and future RSI ortho appointments) you could be saving yourself:

Pausing is the best feature ever added in a Grinding Gear game. Therefore it is with great sadness I will tell you about how I found out it isn’t uniform across either current PoE titles, and perhaps might even differ between different versions of either game (ie. SSF vs HC vs SC trade). Or at least to a networking-nub, but not a nub to realtime services), Pause didn’t (sic doesn’t) seem to be predictable.
After many, dedicated hours (read: 50-ish) leveing FB, Icebolt & Frostwall with some CoC sprinkled in before us tourist 0.1 Sorcs had a blue supp that helped us peek doors and corners (a la Astral Projection), my StormWeaver found herself face to feathery beak with ripping my fist HC character in Trials. For all of approximately 8 seconds, I thought I was fine. I thought I had time to take a leak, because for the last 49 1/2 hours of campaign and white maps, DraechmasViktorTop had yet to encounter a scenario where he had opted to Pause(TM) and the pause didn’t pause (well except for that “bug” so monsters Nearby(TM) continue to wail on you even after their in-transit, a-priori packets had been transmitted prior to the button-press). No wait, that was a feature.
Now I know what you’re saying, “but Draechma, you play HC PoE, deal.” Well… I am. I have played, since that day, over a year ago at least a handful of hours a week when my 5 wives and 7 kids let me, and every time since, the latency overlay is visible. Yet today, today is still a great day. I have regained 1-1/4 inch x 3/4 inch (get rekt eurasian-chuds) of my screen by disabling all graphs. This setting has probably existed since I downloaded this PoE 2 client and immediately ensured 2, 3, & 4 are unbound so my involuntary Asperger’s piano-ing doesn’t mess with combat queueing overly much. Yes, today Wraeclast life is good. Now if only there was an indicator that announced that you had paused, but the pause wasn’t pausing yet because pause-buffering can take (ime) up to 8 pause-like seconds, depending heavily upon geographic distance between the pauser and the pausererereferee; even on a demonstrably uncongested conduit through the interwebs.

Well I say all that to bring home my main concern. Did you know there is a list of unique monsters on the poewiki (the good one) for Path 1. But there’s not yet a list even begun for PoE 2? WTAF. Note there does exist a Pause page.
Ya’ll axe and sword lovers, you’ve got nothing better to do yet, right? Get busy editing so I keep Blinking my way to a 400 stumble/sec Cast on Stun EoW proj-cap.
If you melee enjoyers aren’t testing Zarokh conversions so I know how much blue life I need to not get tickled in tornados then can somebody, for the sake of Hinekora, tell me which shade of black means phys-dot, vs. poison, vs. emotional damage. Yes you, the wrist-wringing redditor puking monster in teh aisle seat waiting for starlink to beam down ur next lvl 20 spirit gem (for Iron Ward ofc)!
Ok, my load screen is done. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you after my next 1, no three, no five portals.
